The ClarinArt Ensemble
The ClarinArt Ensemble is a clarinet trio that has performed in concert throughout Switzerland and abroad for some 15 years.
In addition to the common denominator of the clarinet, all of the ensemble's members studied with Kurt Weber at the Conservatory
(Hochschule der Künste) in Berne. Sven Bachmann, Eveline Eichenberger and Wenzel Grund performed as orchestral and chamber musicians
abroad, significant stepping stones in their careers. In addition to performing they are active in related fields such as teaching,
concert organization and music therapy.
The innovative clarinet trio performs not only music from diverse periods and musical styles but also places great importance
on collaborations with other art forms (pantomime, dance, painting). The trio performs carefully designed narrated concerts that
touch upon different eras in music history. The programmes include not only original compositions from the golden age of the
clarinet by major composers from the classic period (Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn) as well as by less well known composers
(Krommer, Wenth, Druschetzky, Molter, etc.) who made a significant contribution to establishing the instrument's position in wind music.
Another pillar in their repertory are arrangements (including their own) of music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque.
Since it is said that the clarinet is able to imitate the many nuances of the human voice, it is not surprising that vocal works
are particularly suitable for arrangements on the clarinet. The basset horn (the tenor range) in particular with its wan and
velvety timbre is perfect in arrangements of the music by Dufay, di Lasso or Gesualdo.
Through the use of the most common instruments from the clarinet family (E-flat clarinet, B-flat clarinet, basset horn, and
bass clarinet) the ClarinArt Ensemble is able to create homogenous, orchestral sonorities. Particularly noteworthy is the expansive
spectrum of dynamics, colors and articulation. Moreover, the agility and the capacity for differentiation and variation in their
playing has earned the ensemble a place of recognition among wind instruments.
